More Than a Picture

Khyron

My name is Khyron, but my friends call me Khy. My parents got my name from an old Japanese Anime called Robotech. I’m a 22-year-old photographer and raised in northern Louisiana and currently enrolling in MNSU.

I first started doing photography around the age of 10 but didn’t take it seriously until this summer when I bought my first DSLR (Sony A7III). Growing up, I was always told that I was good at taking pictures of people but would respond with, “it’s just a picture.” I couldn’t have been more wrong.

I want to tell stories through my still images—stories from very different cultures, religions, people, etc. I don’t really come from an artsy family; actually, I believe I’m the only one that really cares about art in a way that makes me wanna pursue it even for fun. Coming from a single mother household along with my brother majority of my life, it wasn’t easy to get motivated and start trying new things, especially with the location where we were living at that moment.

North Louisiana is nothing but country and not a place for people of any ages to do. Some call it a retirement location. Once I left Louisiana for college in the summer of 2018, I bought myself a Yashica 35mf that I still use today but only have developed film a handful of times. I still prefer the DSLRs any day.

You can find Khyron on Instagram and Twitter.
