Maryam Azzam
Hi, my name is Maryam, but most people just know me as Mar. I’m a 19-year-old journalism student based in Toronto, Ontario. I’m also a multimedia artist with a primary focus on digital art.
From a young age, I was aware of the vilification of people that looked like me in the media. Naturally, this bothered me, so I set out to become a journalist in an attempt to disrupt that narrative. Along the way, I’ve found that people are more likely to pay attention to imagery rather than words, so I began creating art with a message.
I don’t quite have a style; I find that my art changes with the ebb and flow of the world around me. My work is typically centered around mental health and social issues, and since these issues are complex and ever-changing, as is my art.
