I’m Kaylee Claire; I’m an illustrator and comic creator from Cape Town, South Africa.
I’ve been making art since the moment I could hold a crayon and have tried many mediums over the years. From 2013 to 2015, I studied Makeup and Set Design for Film and Photography at City Varsity in Cape Town. Still, even while studying, I had a big interest in digital art and enjoyed doing fanart outside schoolwork. Once I finished studying, I worked on a few film and photography sets before I started reading webcomics and decided I might try to write my own. In December 2016, I started posting my webcomic Until Sunset online, and this December marked the 4th year anniversary of the comic. Thanks to my Patrons, I am able to make my comic full time.
Until Sunset, my comic is an LGBTQ+ modern fantasy romance about a boy who finds an injured merman on the beach and nurses him back to health. The comic is set in Knysna, South Africa, one of my favorite places in the world, and I hope Until Sunset catches some of the beauty of the Garden Route.
When not working on my comic, I also do digital illustrations. Many of my illustrations include detailed backgrounds and lots of plants, as in the past few years, I have found myself with a huge love of indoor plants – I currently own over 65 plants scattered throughout my studio apartment.
